SIS: Policeman abused powers and used violence against prisoner
A criminal case was launched based on the report filed by the prisoner of “Artik” Criminal-Executive Institution of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia as per the materials prepared in the Special Investigation Service in accordance with Article 309 of the Criminal Code. According to the prisoner’s report at about 8 a.m. on September 16, he was taken into custody to Mush Department of Gyumri city of Shirak Regional Administration of the Police where the policemen exercised violence against him with an intention of getting confessionary statements about the commission of the theft. They also threatened him that if he did not confess they would hold his son criminally liable. He was forced to agree with the demands of the policemen and he confessed that he had allegedly committed the theft. A preliminary investigation is underway, the SIS Press Service reports. The suspect or the accused of the alleged offence is deemed innocent unless his or her innocence is proved by virtue of the effective court verdict in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
