Writer Gurgen Khanjyan isn’t particularly enthusiastic about the new Minister of Culture. He thinks that fundamental changes are necessary in the cultural sphere. “There is a lack of expert cultural figures in the Government, in the Ministry. But today more resourceful people make use of privileges rather than the people who are really devoted to art,” the writer told the journalists in the interview. Playwright Karine Khodikyan, who was also present at the press conference, noted that even if the Ministry increases the number of the concert halls and theatres, it will not change anything unless the number of the people, who are attending these places, isn’t increased: “Again we have to look deeper into the problem. I’ve worked in the Ministry of Culture and based on that experience, I want to tell something. I would like the Ministry to be allowed to decide independently who is a priority, who is good; in that case the picture would be more hopeful. Today the issue of titles is solved from the top, and then they call the Ministry telling to prepare the package of a person who will be awarded a title, at the end the Ministry is criticized for awarding a title to this or that “non-art worker”. The playwright also expressed her concern over the question that until today there is no law on theatre. Actress Karine Janjughazyan was also present at the discussion. She noted that the society already rebels trying to hold a revolution in the culture. “We expect unbiased control from the Ministry in this sphere, as our people are infected with rabiz,” she noted.
