6.1 magnitude earthquake in Iran kills two
A powerful magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck northeastern Iran near the city of Mashhad at 06:09 Yerevan time (at 09:09 GMT), killing at least two people and injuring about 30 as residents fled onto the streets and aftershocks shook the region. The epicenter was 91 kilometers from the city of Mashhad, the second most populous city in the country with a population of over 2.3 million people. Twenty aftershocks, measuring between magnitudes 3.1 and 4.7, followed the earthquake.
