Annual growth rate of aquaculture production has remained much the same in Armenia in the past 25 years, the president of the Beekeepers' Association of Armenia told journalists today. Telman Nazaryan says 35% growth is expected in bee stocks annually but he does not see the tendency. Vanush Davtyan, President of the Armenian Technological Academy, accounts the lowest growth rates for several factors, including diseases, chemicals and radiation. “Beekeepers should be warned every time when chemicals are used in the fields for them to keep the bees in the hives. In this context, strict criteria are set in Europe, that is why we cannot find markets there,” he said. Telman Nazaryan added that we do not have corresponding doctors in Armenia. “We have doctors for everything – potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, but not for bees.” About 3.5 thousand tons of honey was produced in Armenia in 2016.
