IRAN-ARMENIA GAS PIPELINE STARTS
Support A1+!Iran-Armenia gas pipeline construction started Tuesday in Armenia’s Sunik province. Armenian PM Andranik Margaryan was present there.
The pipeline will stretch throughout both Iran’s and Armenia’s territories.
A 100-km-long pipe will be built along Tavriz-Norduz Iranian side’s border section at the expense of Iran.
Armenia received 30 million dollars from Iran as credit for construction of the first 40 kilometers of the pipeline.
Construction works are planned to be completed by January 1, 2007.
As much as 1,1 billion cubic meters of gas is initially to be conveyed to Armenia every year. By 2019 gas supply to Armenia is expected to be increased to 2,3 billion cubic meters.
The agreement term is 20 years.
To exploit the pipeline in a full scale a 197-kilometer Kajaran-Sisyan-Jermuk section will be built. Negotiations with likely investors are under way now.
Armenia will supply electric power to Iran for gas.
