ARMENIAN DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEADER COMES UP WITH PROPOSAL OVER NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT
Support A1+!An important change is made in the Karabakhi conflict settlement policy: stage-by-stage solution version was replaced with part-by-part one, Democratic Party leader Aram Sargsyan said Saturday at the Constitutional Law Union’s “Azdak” club. In Sargsyan’s words, this version of the conflict solution was proposed earlier by Vladimir Kazimirov, OSCI Minsk Group co-chairman.
However, in Democratic Party leader’s opinion, there is some danger in this version. “The thing is that political solution will be proposed at the very first step. Those forces, having own interests in the region, will act apart from Minsk Group. Armenia’s territory can grow a military area. The conflict will cease to be purely Armenia-Azerbaijan war: Iran, Turkey, China and Russia expected to be involved in it. And the U.S. will hardly to remain an independent observer. Armenian government should propose a legal solution to the conflict”, Aram Sargsyan says.
The party leader also addressed international organizations, interested in a peaceful solution, with a statement. “You want to act as mediators. We are also willing to operate according to your rules. You always say the solution must be grounded on the international law. Why you abandon this principle now? Because political solution is the only thing you all interested in, as each mediating country expects to take advantage from it”, he said.
Recently, Sargsyan has been invited to Moscow, where in the course of the meeting between Karabakhi and Azeri spokesmen he presented the above proposal.
