GRIGOR AMALYAN SACRIFICES HIMSELF TO ROBERT KOCHARYAN
Support A1+!Freedom of speech in Armenia is put at danger, which is becoming increasingly serious day by day. “A1+” Independent TV Company remains deprived of TV frequency and Grigor Amalyan, the head of the National Commission on Radio and Television, doesn’t rule out that the company will remain deprived of broadcasting up to the end of the year.
Despite the criticism and demands of the CE and other international organisations, the commission has no intention to announce another tender for any vacant frequency.
Grigor Amalyan said Tuesday in an interview with “Azatutyun” radio station the commission is to set "convenient" time for competition and this summer isn’t the best time for that, consequently, this autumn too. It is obvious, that Amalyan is going not to abandon adopted by him principle and make decisions fit to his own interests.
Mr. Amalyan has already forgotten the demand of international organisations and the promise of the official Yerevan, that a new tender will be announced and the A1+ will be given an opportunity to participate in it. Now nobody doubts that the head of the commission plays a role of a lamb going to the slaughter and is ready to sacrifice himself for Robert Kocharyan's re-election.
Today, the dates of presidential and parliamentary elections are already known. And the suspicion, that the National Commission on Radio and Television, violating the law, artificially suspends new tender for frequencies and will find “convenient” time only after elections are over, is being confirmed.
It isn’t so difficult to imagine in what manner will be held elections while the A1+ is deprived of broadcasting.
