"MARKET" SCHOOLS ACCORDING TO AIDA TOPUZYAN

"If we want schools to meet the time requirements it is necessary that they should become autonomous, i.e., a system of paying service. Council is to be fset up of teachers, parents and institutions of local government and a school is to be headed by it" . The author of the statement is Aida Topuzyan, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science.

At her conversation with journalists she regarded as absurdity the statistical datum of Social Welfare Ministry the number of children in Armenia who don't attend schools because of social conditions is 106 .

Aida Topuzyan thinks our education system is to be changed radically . She says we must demand schools to provide both with modern education and long studies. Schools are to meet market demands , she says.

The Deputy Minister cited figures - this year number for schoolchildren makes 531. 499 instead of 532. 530 of last year. The number of first-formers is 51. 530 instead of 52. 000 for the previous year . There are 570 vacancies for teachers in Armenia.
