JOURNALISTS FIND PACE RESOLUTION SHALLOW

Social

Today, Public Dialog and Development Centre held a seminar on freedom of speech in Armenia. The seminar participants exchanged views on PACE 1304 resolution on Armenia commitments. A number of the resolution provisions related to journalists were discussed. All the participants

found the resolution shallow. There are even insulting journalists provisions in the resolution. “The situation over the media in Armenia caused neither by material administrative obstacles nor by political harrassment, but due to journalists’ skill level and ethics, which are fare from European standards”, one of the provisions says.

Chair of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan objected saying journalist skill and ethics are directly connected with material and administrative obstacles.

PACE urges Armenian authorities to amend the Radio and Television Law.

The head of the Radio and Television National Commission Grigor Amalyan is sure the law shouldn’t be amended – a new law should be instituted.
