NOT TIME TO SPEAK YET
Support A1+!“We haven’t yet evaluated victory of Artsakh War. If there is change of Authorities tomorrow, Generals of today will become criminals” , Edik Baghdasarian, Director of Association of Investigating Journalists, announced at the scientific meeting in Tsaghkadzor, arranged by Information Service of Yerevan State University.
Participants of the 3 day long meeting tried to represent coverage of Artsakh Liberation War in Mass Media since 1989. Studying “Republic of Armenia”, “Hayk”, “Aravot”, “Yerkir” Dailies, students of YSU Journalism Department concluded at the days of Artsakh War Armenian readers were in an “information blockade“.
Chronologists of Liberation War had to explain what the reason was. “One could be labelled as a traitor when writing the truth about the war” , Baghdasarian says. He also said he hadn’t written about some details of Artsakh War. “We were the witnesses of stupid operations of illiterate commanders which caused death of tens of soldiers” . Majority of those commanders is now high rankers.
Journalists say “it was time then to act and not to speak” .
“According to press attitude to Artsakh Liberation War, time to speak hasn’t come yet” , participants of the meeting concluded.
Levon Ananyan, Chairman of Writers’ Union of Armenia, thinks Armenian journalists must not write about the social state of families of perished and injured freedom fighters, about the indifference in order ”not to kill the spirit in the new generation. We can face the danger of it anytime“.
