Individual codes will be given to all the citizens of Armenia . Armenian Law on “Individual Codes” is valid since 2003 January 1.
An individual code consists of 10 figure symbols which are formed upon birthday, month of birth, year of birth, sex of a citizen. It also includes an auxiliary ordinary number and a protection symbol. Name, surname, patronymic, issue date, and the number of another document, proving identity of a person or a passport are written on the individual card.
Individual codes are given once. But it is possible that a citizen may have a few individual cards. Foreign citizens, being granted the right for residing in Armenia, are obliged to get such document in Armenia irrespective of the fact whether they were given such code in their countries or not.
”Can a citizen be sure that his or her individual data won’t be used for other purposes”? As the head of “Nemrut” assures, “necessary legal and technical measures will be used to protect them” .
People of Armenia must procure individual codes by July 1, 2004. 25000 residents of Abovian micro-district were given individual cards.
System of individual codes is introduced by collaboration of Armenian Government and international donor organisations. USAJD has allowed 1.200.000 $ for that purpose.
