ENVIRONMENTALISTS DISCUSSING ISSUES
Support A1+!UN Armenian office marked International Environment Protection Day on June 5. Welcoming the event participants, the UN Coordinator Branislav Jeckic noted that the UN has declared 2003 the Drinking Water Year.
Delivering a report on ecology ministerial conference and its declaration, Armenian Environmental Minister Vardan Ayvazyan said the provision on nuclear security was withdrew from the preliminary version of the declaration. The minister told journalists that this is very important fact in the light of the problems related to Armenian Nuclear Power Plant as issue on Armenian and Russian nuclear power plants closure was discussed at the Kiev conference.
Armenian environmentalists exchanged opinions. Greens Union’s leader Hakob Manasaryan said despite his progressive stance, he remains opposed to any precipitous changes causing trouble. In particular, he attracted the participants’ attention to Water Code.
