ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT PROMISES TO IMPLEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Social

Armenia along with 190 UN member countries signed Millennium Declaration in 2002 accepting commitments to rid the republic of poverty, to promote sexual equality and expansion of women’s rights, to deal with AIDS and other problems.

Today a seminar was held at the UN Yerevan office in order to attract journalists’ attention to the Declaration aims and urge them to watch what the government is doing in this direction.

In near future report on aims of the Declaration will be released. However, there is not a word about the amount so far provided by the government for the program implementation in that report, the program coordinator Susanna Bagratuni said.

Karine Saribekyan, Public Health Ministry representative, said the program is in need of financial support of donor organisations.

Armenian officials say the government makes all efforts to put the program into reality within 12-year period.
