WE FIGHT FOR INTERESTS OF STUDENTS
Support A1+!Journalists have gone into the problems of students in Zeytun hostels for many times. But Lori Yapujyan, Chair for student board on the 5th building of the hostel says, both journalists and the public have obscure idea of the real purpose of their struggle . To make the problem clearer to the society though journalists the students have decided to hold a press conference.
The 4 floors of the 5th building of the hostel are placed at Medical University proposal without indemnity and under uncertain term. The fact that Medical University “generously” reconstructs not only the 4 storeys but also the whole building, is suspect to the students.
”To discuss the contract on transfer of the 5th building to the Medical University and situation in the hostel, a committee was set up on the instructions of Sergio Eritsyan, Education and Science Minister. No students residing in a hostel were inscribed in the committee, the committee members never visited the hostel, they didn’t carry out studies or meet the students ”, the students said.
Under the contract concluded between “Zeytun Students’ Hostels” Fund and “Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi” state and non-trade organisation, which the committee decided to leave unchanged, the 5th building was given to the Medical University without compensation and under indeterminate term, and the 5th and the 6th floors of the building will be allocated to Conservatory and State Artistic Academy after reconstruction.
Besides, it is unknown what it is in store for the students in a year or two as Medical University can anytime demand for both 5th and 6th floors since the building wholly belongs to it.
“We fight for not only our own interests but also for students’ hostels in general”, Lori Yapojyan says.
Students were deprived of Nor Nork hostels. Zeytun hostel students will face the same. “If there are no hostels or if payment for them is not reasonable, children of needy families from provinces won’t come to Yerevan as they haven’t enough means to rent flats”, students are concerned about it.
