PARLIAMENTARY COUNCIL TRYING TACKLE DISABLED PROBLEMS

Social

Parliamentary Council on Disabled Issues started its activity today. The council is made from 21 members with only one disabled among them - Artak Arakelyan, who is the head of the council and a member of “Orinats Erkir” party. The rest 20 members are different organisations’ representatives. What about the disabled, they will attend the council’s sessions as guests.

Today, using the opportunity given, they listed about two dozen top-priority problems. To solve all of them the parliament will have to change at least 7 laws and maybe adopt new ones.

However, it isn’t ruled out that not all problems will be solved after that. There are plenty problems besides unemployment, lack of wheel-chairs etc. Living conditions in apartment buildings are unbearable to many of the disabled.

Some of the problems are already closer to solution than formerly: the disabled needs will be taken into account in apartment designing new norms in the 2004-2005 projects, some measures are to be taken to ease disable children attending school.
