EDUCATED OR EXCHANGED
Support A1+!”USA Government has allowed $2.000.000 to implement educational and cultural programs in Armenia in 2003”, Kimbery Hargan, head of the department of USA Embassy to Armenia on the relations with the public has announced today. Mr Hargan divided the projects envisaged in Armenia into 2 parts, those implemented by USA Government and by non-state organisations. Plenipotentiary Lillian Walker introduced the educational programs in details.
The educational programs by USA have been executed in Armenia since 1992. 1200 Armenians have been retrained in USA. According to Walker, majority of the retrained ones holds high posts in Armenian Government. In the framework of the projects implemented by USA, both scientists and schoolchildren can exchange experience and be retrained in USA.
Annually within “Full Bright” program 3 scientists leave for USA from Armenia and 2-3 ones arrive in Armenia from USA. The program suggests grants to scientists and specialists for lecturing or fulfilling scientific and research works. Former senator William Fullbright established the program in 1946. 43 Armenian scientists have gained grants to lecture and make studies in USA.
For 2003-2004 academic year 3 Armenian specialists will be retrained and get a certificate from USA Government. USA Government has planned a grant tender for the students of Armenian institutes of higher education. A grant tender “Actual problems” FSACI was announced for.
Those who will be given a chance to study in USA, will become the Ambassadors of Armenia in USA, Lillian Walker said.
