RELIGIOUS CONGRESS OPENED IN ARMENIA

Social

Armenian Church leader Garegin the Second blessed the Congress of Eastern Churches Jurisprudence started Monday in Tsakhkadzor. The congress is focused on juridical problems of the Orthodox Churches functioning across the Caucasus territories. Catholicos Garegin II spoke on basic provisions of juridical guidelines of the religion: freedom of worship, freedom of conscience, religious tolerance.

“All these principles were generated along with Christianity and we consider them as the truth proved by millennia but not as today’s discovery”, Catholicos said in his speech.

He also said the freedom of worship doesn’t mean that the community doesn’t care whom its members give worship to - God or the Devil. It doesn’t mean the community can be indifferent to the norms dominated in society, Garegin II said.

“Freedom of conscience can’t be taken as freedom from conscience. Separation between church and state can’t grow into separation of state and citizens from God”, Catholicos said.

The congress is to complete its work on September 13.
