WOMAN IS AS CAPABLE AS MAN
Support A1+!Women have won six National Assembly seats in the 2003 parliamentary elections. One of them has been elected in individual race while the rest five women have obtained seats in parliament through party lists.
The number of high-ranking women in executive power is limited as well. Only one woman is a minister and 5 are deputy ministers. Women predominate in education, public health and culture areas.
Armenian Women’s Council has convened a round table to discuss a program drafted by governmental commission and submitted to the government for upholding. The program is focused on improving women’s living conditions and increasing their significance in the community.
Social Security Deputy Minister Karine Hakobyan introduced the program to the round table participants.
The event is aimed at the project dissemination among political activists and MPs.
Among the strategies outlined in the draft are:
1. Providing women with rights equal to those of men;
2. Improving women’s material wealth;
3. Paying attention to education sphere;
4. Improving women’s health state;
5. Eliminating violence against women;
6. Increasing media outlets’ and culture organizations’ role in highlighting female problems and forming honorable image of women;
7. Implementing institutional reforms.
The project is to be carry out as part of “Citizens’ Awareness and Participation in Armenia” program.
