ARMENTEL HAS NO RIGHT TO RAISE PRICES

Social

Communication and Transport Minister Andranik Manukyan said Friday that ArmenTel won’t raise consumer prices for telecommunication.

Speaking on ArmenTel Company’s intention to raise per-minute prices from approaching year’s January, the minister said “such a step would become a clear breach of the law”.

Andranik Manukyan says there is an agreement signed by the government and the company in 2002, under which the republic residents have a right to 360 minutes of free talk by phone. For additional minutes they should pay 4 dram per minute. Before setting new prices the company must submit economically justified calculation, the minister says.

He said under new bill on telecommunication to be put on the National Assembly floor soon, ArmenTel can lose his monopoly on mobile and internet communications.
