PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES OVER COMPENSATION CONTINUE
Support A1+!Armenia’s interior debt is anticipated to reach I billon 100 million USD by the end of 2004, says Grigor Gonjeyan, the head of United Labor Party parliamentary fraction. In his opinion, it isn’t so easy to lavish compensation of 82 million dollars to Savings Bank depositors.
He doesn’t share the opinion that in case of indexation the most of the depositors would be insulted by such a humiliating compensation and willingly forgo it. The indexation means those having 1,000 soviet rubles will be offered only 20,000 drams and with every additional thousand the compensation is diminishing.
Samvel Balasanyan, the head of the parliamentary commission set to deal with the problem, says a new order of compensation payment can be worked out to spare depositors’ feelings.
The government will be able to pay proper compensations only after 2020, he says.
