”As a result of 2-year-long study 150 nuthatch territories out of 3000 of Armenia will be selected”, Sargis Margaryan, head of Scientific and Technical Department of Urban Ministry, says.

Through the grant awarded by Japan Government the program on “Study on Nuthatch Disaster Management” is implemented in our country. Nothing is said about the volume of the grant.

Japanese specialists are to carry out researches within 2 years. The project started in March, 2004. It is planned to render the Japanese experience to the Armenian specialists and to teach them the application of the devices, which will be handed to the Armenian side after the end of the program.

Mr. Margaryan explains that majority of nuthatch territories emerge because of forest cutting and 4% of the republic is in nuthatch zone.

According to Urban Deputy Minister Sos Kocharyan, in 2004 151,6 million drams were allotted for the houses in the districts damaged from nuthatches.

There are nuthatch areas in Sari region, Nubarashen and Hrazdan valley.
