RAMIL SAFAROV SAYS HE COMMITTED UNINTENDED CRIME
Support A1+!Nazeli Vardanyan, the attorney to heir of Armenian officer Gurgen Markaryan, who has been murdered by Azeri officer Ramil Safarov during NATO-led training held in Budapest in February, said at a news conference in Yerevan that she has a judge assistance status in Budapest court while a Hungarian counsel is set to present the heir’s interests.
Nazeli Vardanyan said Armenian side intended to hire a lawyer to file a suit demanding compensation.
Ramil Safarov faces homicide charge and murder attempt charge, as he made an attempt also upon another Armenian officer Hayk Mukuchyan.
Lawyer Vardanyan said the prosecution had evidence of premeditated murder while Ramil Safarov was trying to prove that the murder committed was unpremeditated.
Safarov told he had been born in Hojalu village. In his words, Armenians were beating and torturing his relatives.
Nazeli Vardanyan said the accused had repeatedly made the testimonies contradicting each other and there was even been a mix-up over date of his birth.
The trial was covered by Hungarian media.
The next session is scheduled for February 2005.
