Social

General Rafik Karapetyan, Head of the Veteran Council, summoned today a press conference to complain of state carelessness about the 9241 veterans. According to him, 600 thousand soldiers from Armenia took part in the Second World War, half of which fell victims to it, only 3% of those returned is now alive, and the youngest veteran is older than 80.

According to General Karapetyan, the veterans are deprived of expensive privileges, for example using the transport for free, and they can only use discounts for house tax or telephone. «They deprived us of free transport use, and give us only 2000 drams, and 3500 – to invalid veterans, and the discounts for the minor taxes are left. I do not mean to say that the authorities ignore us on purpose; simply the conditions in our country are such. Armenia does not have the same economy as Russia, where veterans get a pension of about $100», analyzed Rafik Karapetyan.

The Head of the Veteran Council said that on May 9 their delegation will take part in the celebration in Moscow of the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He also informed that he is in good relations with the Ministries of Health and Defense. It is this two Ministries that pay great attention to the veterans.

”But with the help of today’s press conference I want the mass media to raise the question that the people who took part in the war have grown old, their hearts have grown smaller, and there are many helpless old people in hospitals and nursing homes, we must not be so careless about them. We must also think about the education of the younger generations”, said General Rafik Karapetyan.
