MAN WAS IMMORTAL BEFORE SINNING

Social

This year on February 6 the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the holiday of Main Barekendan. It is celebrated on the eve of the Lent and is called Great or Main Barekendan. «Barekendan» means happy life, bed of roses. In the religious meaning it reminds of the paradise in which Adam and Eve lived.

Before sinning man was immortal. This life was a real happiness for him because he lived in the presence of God and there was nothing that could make him sad.

The Main Barekendan is a day of celebration and feast. It is celebrated also in Russia and in European countries.

On the previous Saturday evening of Main Barekendan, the Altar of the church is curtained during the divine service and left so till the end of Lent. It starts on February 7 – the following day of Barekendan.
