ARMENIAN CHESS PLAYER DETAINED
Support A1+!Well-known Armenian chess player Vladimir Hakobyan was arrested in Dubai. Press Secretary of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hamlet Gasparyan commented in the situation to Armenspress news agency.
“April 4 on the invitation of the Chess Federation of the United Arab Emirates Vladimir Hakobyan, who was engaged in training work in Katar, went to Dubai. However on arriving at the airport he was arrested. Later it turned out that Armenian citizen Vladimir Hakobyan is wanted by Iterpol on suspicion of a murder. The Armenian Embassy undertook measures for release of the chess player. Presently Vladimir Hakobyan is free but his passport is kept in the Dubai police till the circumstances are completely made clear. The problem is considered to be settled”, Hamlet Gasparyan said.
