GRANTS GIVE RISE TO CORRUPTION

Social

“Corruption does not emerge from money, it is closely connected with distort of ideas,” the participants of the public hearings held by "National Citizens' Initiative" NGO.

On this score the chairman of the NGO “Hope” Karen Hakobyan presented the participants a NGO survey about corruption roots and its institutionalization with the help of American and European tax-payers and international donor organizations giving grants. Karen Hakobyan who is also a member of the NGO “Civil Society Professionals,” deems such activity inadmissible. The activity of the CSP, the mission of which is the establishment of civil society in Armenia was legal until its council was elected. But the council comprising 6 members made certain decisions contravening the right to property, the RA legislation and the interests of the NGO and its members. In Karen Hakobyan opinion the council members want the NGO to serve their personal interests and needs. The people present were concerned by the fact that there is corruption in all the NGOs in Armenia.

LEGAL WILFULNESS IN THE NAS

The RA NAS academician Anri Nersisyan was also invited to the hearings. The latter claims that he was constantly aware of the NAS former chairman Fadey Sargsyan’s illegal activities but he always kept silent. He officially declares that the NAS is a great source of corruption.

Anri Nersisyan presented multiple accusations and facts on the NAS premises selling and buying and great sums appropriation during the years when the chairman was Fadey Sargsyan. He is mainly indignant by the fact that Fadey Sargsyan annually gave 19 million AMD to the “Medical Genetic Centre” of 16 workers in order to assist his daughter’s “scientific activity” when there are a number of institutes and centers with 300 personnel workers. They annual budget hasn’t outnumbered 0.32 million AMD so far.
