Tomorrow, over 34 Armenian peacekeepers will leave for Kosovo under the order of Serge Sargsyan, RA Defense Minister.

Today, Arthur Aghabekyan, Deputy Defense Minister, solemnly went to bid adieu to the peacekeepers.

Reminder; Serge Sargsyan, left for Iraq yesterday.

At first, the soldiers listened to the Armenian hymn and then to Mr. Aghabekyan’s speech.

“The Armenian peacekeepers’ excellent activity promotes the strengthening of the reputation of the Armenian armed forces on the international level. It inspires confidence and respect among the international structures towards Armenia,” said the deputy minister and added, “I urge you to juxtapose your professional skills with humanity and dignity typical of peacekeepers. I am convinced that you will fulfill your tasks consciously.”

Two parents were present in the farewell ceremony. Martun Markosyan, father of 24-year-old peacekeeper, is proud that his son is leaving for Kosovo. His wife couldn’t utter a word and only said, “My son decided to goes to Kosovo himself”. Then the father added, “Our family consists of 14 members. My 6 sons serve in the army. Soldiers know no fear. We are only concerned that our son won’t be with us for a few months.”

By the way, Arthur Aghabekyan noted that the soldiers are eager to participate in the peacekeepers’ mission.

As for the Armenian peacekeeper injured in Iraq, the deputy minister said that his condition is getting better.

Reminder: 25-year-old Georgy Nalbandyan was injured in Baghdad three days ago and his leg was amputated in an American hospital. Nalbandyan is currently in Germany.
