A MONUMENT TO THE GENOCIDE VICTIMS UNVEILED IN ROME
Support A1+!A monument to the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide was unveiled in Rome.
The Armenians living in Rome were discontent with the erection of the monument to Atatturk in the Italian capital and demanded to respect the memory of the Armenian victims as well. The city municipality met the claim of the Armenian community.
During the ceremony, Alekko Pezikyan, representative of the Armenian Cause in Europe noted, “The Romans once again showed their prudence and support to the minorities subjected to violations by the Genocide recognition”.
The Romans think highly of the Armenian community’s activity in Rome.
Robert Ataryan, representative of the Armenian community in Rome, reminded the people present of the 2000 resolution of the Italian Parliament which recognized the Armenian Genocide.
“The Great Genocide knows no boundaries and colours. The languages and religions must not become a reason for discrimination. Justice must be administered at any rate”, he mentioned in his speech.
The monument was unveiled by the Armenian Ambassador to Italy Ruben Shugaryan and the representative of the Rome municipality.
