“THEY IGNORE US”

Social

Several groups of demonstrators – residents of North Avenue, Dalma Gardens, cheated depositors of “Armenia Bank” and the pensioners of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs gathered in front of the RA Government building today.

They wanted to meet the RA Prime Minister, presidential candidate Serge Sargsyan. As during the previous protest actions, this time again the demonstrators were promised that their demands would be resented to the Prime Minister, but the meeting with him was impossible.

The veteran of the Patriotic War, 84-year-old Zhora Khachatryan worked in the mines for many years. In 1994 he and other 600 depositors deposited their money in “Armenia Bank”. The Bank does not function today. Some years later, after the complaints of depositors, 25 percent of their money was returned. 10 years later 81 thousand USD was paid back to the depositors. Zhora Khachctryan remembers that the head of their Commission gave the money to those depositors who had submitted their applications first. According to the depositors, they have appealed to all State instances, but in vain, since no one is willing to return the money. As Zhora Khachatryan mentioned, the State is indebted to him 2000 USD. Almost all depositors are pensioners, who kept their money in the Bank to survive in future.

The pensioners of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs demanded their pensions. Currently the Department of Extraordinary Situations is responsible for their pensions. But the Department ignores their complaints. According to the pensioners, the pensions of about 5-6 thousand employees have raised, but their pensions (600 pensioners) are the same. Their average pension is about 30 thousand drams, but the mentioned 5-6 thousand pensioners get about 81 thousand drams. By the Government’s 2002 new law their pensions were cut off for 25 percent.

Today they have submitted an appeal-letter with 600 signatures to the Government. But they do not anticipate anything from them, since the Government has sent the letter to the Department of Extraordinary Situations and it will definitely ignore the demand of pensioners.
