Social

Tradespeople of “Airarat,” “Hrazdan,” “Bangladesh” and “Firdusi” fairs gathered in front of the RA Government today to complain of the increased customs duty. They blame the newly-appointed Prime Minister of the increased dues.

The import duty has marked up. As a result, people cannot afford goods. The tax on knitted garments has become $8-10 from $3,” said a tradeswoman of “Airarat” fair Anush Nikoghossian.

“They want us to become beggars and appear in the street. They want to deprive us of our daily bread,” they said.

“Obviously, human rights are not protected in our country. Tradespeople don't levy VAT beforehand in other countries,” said a “Hrazdan” tradesman Armen.

Laura Davtian, an employee of “Firdusi” Fair, says that the authorities pledged to promote small and medium-sized businesses. While today they increase customs duty. We no longer believe are empty promises as people have become restless in their homes.

The protesters will continue crowding near the Government if their concern is not handled today. They are even ready to go on a hunger-strike.

The protesters were received by a Government representative.
