Today the employees of Yerevan fairs staged a protest action in front of the government building against a recent decision to place cash-registering apparatuses in fairs.

“They demand 7000 drams per a square-meter area. And now they bind their apparatuses to us. We cannot work in such miserable conditions. The fairs will close down if they don’t annul the decision,” the employee of Malatia fair, Garegin Poghosyan said to A1+. Garegin Poghosyan is an engineer but he has to carry on trade to keep his family.

“Let them install cash-registering apparatuses in supermarkets owned by our high-rank officials. I have a six-square-meter area and I can hardly meet both ends meet let alone the increased taxes,” said another employee, Mrs. Arevik.

The protesters demanded a meeting with Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan. “We shall stage such protest actions by the time they tackle the issue in our favour,” said 37-year-old Gagik Arakelyan.

The protesters were received by government representative Alexander Ghazaryan who advised the presentees to submit a written-complaint with the State Committee of the Real Estate. The advice made the protesters furious.

Note that during the action the protesters collided with policemen banning their move.

Some 500 protesters forced their way through the police “dyke” and finally got to the building. Minutes later a group of red hats came to help the policemen. Realizing that their demands will be left unaddressed the crowd broke up and dispersed.
