Internet users in Armenia mainly use the Internet for “acquaintances”, forums and social networks. The “acquaintance” sites are an addition to the search engines, e-mail services and news sites, which have high turnout of visitors.
According to “Alexa” web information company, there is not a big difference in numbers in the South Caucasus countries of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. People in these countries visit pornographic sites the most and the company brings up 10,800 such sites that are visited frequently.
According to “Alexa”, Google, Odnoklassniki.ru, Yahoo and Mail.ru lead the top 100 sites visited in Armenia. Among the leaders is also the Wikipedia on-line encyclopedia, Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, as well as the Livejournal and Blogger blogs sites.
“A1+” conducted a small survey from Internet clubs in Yerevan and among visitors to find out which sites are visited most often. It turned out that the Odnoklassniki.ru site isi the most visited. The Internet club administrators said that their clients often visit Russian-language “acquaintance” sites, portals for downloading songs and photos, as well as checking e-mail.
In closing, let us add that many people visit sites to look for jobs. The job search engines are visited as much as the “chat” sites and Armenians visit the “chat” sites a lot.
