Festive event for the 75th anniversary of Albert Azaryan, the thrice-repeated champion of Olympic Games and Armenia’s best sportsman of the 20th century took place in “Arno Babajanyan” small concert hall.
In 1952 during Soviet Gymnastics Championship Albert Azaryan became a champion. In 1954 he became a world champion in Rome. In 1956 during the Olympic Games in Melbourne he won 2 gold medals. In 1960 he again won the title in Olympic Games. He is the only Armenian sportsman who succeeded to become a thrice-repeated champion of Olympic Games.
During his career Azaryan won 45 gold, 45 silver and 10 bronze medals. He now heads the sport school named after him.
By the way, Azaryan’s son Edward, became a champion of Olympic Games, too.
