Today the national team of 19-year-old footballers of Armenia, who won the pass to the finals of the European Football Championship among the sportsmen under the age of 19 arrived at the airport of Zvartnots by the Vienna-Yerevan flight. The young footballers were met by relatives, friends, journalists as well as President of the Football Federation of Armenia Ruben Hayrapetyan, members of the executive committee and fans. Though the success of the young footballers was unprecedented the fans were rather passive. Perhaps such passiveness was caused by the fact that the buses set off to the airport at 4 a.m.
The team arrived a bit later than it was expected. Upon their arrival a firework accompanied by the military orchestra started. Team coach Samvel Petrosyan and the footballers themselves were a bit embarrassed at first and avoided commenting on the championship held in Hungary. Later they noted that that went for victory and won in a hard struggle.
When rendering a press conference together with 18-year old Edgar Manucharyan, who scored four goals, FFA President Ruben Hayrapetyan said that after this victory the team is charged with the task to win the title of the Champion of Europe. “We all witnessed that our team is strong enough and the guys are able to solve serious problems. This is the very team of future I was speaking about”.
Edgar himself said that the most difficult match was the one with the Belgian team, since it was to decide whether Armenia will pass to the finals. “We played a really good game with Belgium. The first minutes with the Hungarian team were also hard but after the first goal everything went well”.
