YAN PORTERFIELD DEAD
Support A1+!Yan Porterfield, chief coach of the Armenian national team died last night in London, England. The Scottish coach died of cancer at the age of 61. Mr Porterfield has headed the Armenian national team since August 2006 and during this period our team has spent its best matches. The coach was famous in Armenia since he greatly contributed to the success of the Armenian football.
Yan Porterfield was a wonderful personality. Despite the problems with his health, he visited Yerevan and supported our footballers before each official match, while his doctors forbade him to travel. He was always present at press conferences and answered to the questions of Armenian journalists with pleasure. The chief coach managed to establish an atmosphere of tolerance and respect in the team.
Before arriving in Armenia, Yan Porterfield worked with a number of famous team. In the beginning of 90-s he headed “Chelsea” football club of London.
The correspondents of A1+ express their condolences to Yan Porterfield’s family and relatives.
Today the Armenian National and youth team will play in black arm bandages during the meetings with Malta’s National team and the youth national team of Ukraine.
