Sports

“If the Serbian team wants to lead Group A in the Euro-2008 try-outs, it must defeat the Armenian footballers on October 13,” the chief coach of the national football team of Serbia, Spanish Javier Clemente told a news conference in Yerevan today. He says it is really a hard task as the Armenian team is a serious rival.

In reply to A1+’s question regarding present-day Armenia, Klemente said “There is a great different between the present and former Armenia. Recalling the Yerevan match in 1995 I should say that the Armenian team has greatly advanced.

Javier Clemente extended condolences over the untimely death of Ian Porterfield, the chief coach of the Armenian national football team.

Javier Clemente said he cannot predict which of the two teams will continue the competition in the European Championship. He only expressed hope that the Serbian team will be one of these.

The Serbian team coach attentively followed Armenia-Poland and Armenia-Portugal matches. He was particularly impressed by Robert Arzumanyan, Levon Pachajyan and Gevorg Ghazaryan.
