NALBANDIAN DEFEATS TOP-RANKED TENNIS-PLAYER

After a long interval, Argentine Armenian tennis-player David Nalbandian reached finals after defeating Rafael Nadal and Jokovich by the score of 6:1, 6:2 at tennis Madrid Masters.

Nalbandian's contender at the final was renowned tennis-player Roger Federar. The Armenian sportsman beat his Swiss rival 6:3, 6:3 at the last two sets thus becoming the tournament champion.

DARCHINIAN’S VICTORY

World boxing champion, IBF and IBO, Vic (Vakhtang) Darchinian defeated Philippine Federiko Katubey with a technical knock-out blow. The referee stopped the meeting at the 12th round.

The meeting was really tense. I am really glad to beat such a strong rival. I shall do my utmost to regain the champion’s belt. Nevertheless, it is too early to speak of revenge on Doner, Darchinian said.

UNPROMISING START

The World Chess Tournament has kicked off in Barcelona with the participation of Armenian GM Rafael Vahanian. After the first four rounds Vahanian has gained one point. He lost to Azeri Vugar Ghashimov and U.S. Nakamuray and tied the last two meetings.
