ARMENIA-RUSSIA MATCH POSTPONED

The Armenian teen and youth boxing teams were supposed to play a friendly match with their Russian counterparts on December 6. But the match scheduled to take place at the Karen Demirchyan sport/concert complex will not take place. The Armenian Boxing Federation told “A1+” that the match was postponed for a while and it is unclear as to when it will take place. It was foreseen that 15 pairs would compete in the ring and that the Russian team would come to Yerevan with its strongest team.

The awards ceremony for the best amateur boxing athletes, referees and trainers of 2008 will take place in the “Crown Plaza” of Moscow on December 12. The event is organized by the International Amateur Boxing Federation of which Armenia is also a member. But the Armenian boxing federation did not receive an invitation.

The name of the best boxer of 2008 will be announced during the awards ceremony. It is possible that one of the gold-medal boxers of the Olympic games will receive the title. Armenia only won bronze medals during the summer Olympics. Hrachya Javakhyan (60 kilograms), Hovhannes Danielyan (48 kilograms) and Edward Hambartsumyan (84 kilograms) won gold medals in the 2008 European Championship in Liverpool.
