Armenian chess master Rafayel Vahanyan is close to the top players in the A group tournament of the “Moscow Open” chess tournament. Vahanyan won in the 5th round tournament with black figures against Nikolay Pushkov.
The experienced chess player scored four points and is just one point away from leading player YanNepomnyashchi, who is the only contestant that hasn’t lost one point during the tournament.
Expectations are high for Armenian chess team player Gabriel Sargsyan. Gabriel tied the game with his opponent Dmitri Chuprov and has 3.5 points in his active. Robert Hovhannisyan lost his second match and currently has 2.5 points.
Things are more interesting in the B group tournament with lower ranking chess players. Five chess players scored five points respectively after the 5th round. Among those players is Armenian representative Robert Aghasaryan who became champion in the up-to 12-year old world tournament in 2006. Robert won Valeri Artamonov in the 5th round. Among the leading chess players is Suren Poghosyan who has not lost a single game yet.
