Judoists scored five medals
Armenian judoists scored five medals during the international young judo competition in Georgia. Among participants of the competition were the teams from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine.
The secretariat of the Armenian Judo Federation informed "A1+" that twelve judoists took part in the competition. David Mkrtchyan (55 kilograms) played the best by scoring the gold medal.
Weighing in at 60 kilograms, Tigran Vardanyan was also close to first place. He lost to his opponent in the final round and received the silver medal. The Armenian judoists scored medals in the heavyweight categories.
The Armenian young judo team will train in Yerevan in March and international competitions are scheduled for April. Armenia will hold a sport/instructional meeting on April 18-23 in the Estonian city of Tartu and will also take part in the competition. The Armenian judoists will then leave for St. Petersburg to participate in another international competition to be held on April 25-30.
During the upcoming months the Armenian youth team will get ready for the 2009 European youth championship to be held at the Karen Demirchyan sport/concert complex in Yerevan.
