The prices of household goods have hiked in Yerevan shops. For instance, the price of Persil washing powder has gone up from 580 drams to 690, a bar of Palmolive soup is sold at 300-320 drams instead of former 220 drams. The prices of tooth pastes have gone up by 50-70 drams.

"Prices keep pushing up but the salaries remain the same. What can we do? Should we strive? Can we live without soap or washing powder?" said Yerevan citizen Anush Madatyan.

Although the rapid price advance in household goods, shop assistants say people continue buying consumer goods at the same pace. "The prices have bid up by 20-25 % and new price enhancement is not excluded in the near future," said Lilit Hovhannisyan.

A shop owner explained the rise in prices by the dollar appreciation.  "This is a natural phenomenon. Import is largely realised by the dollar. On the other hand, the currency rate keeps increasing in our country," he said.
