"I am sure that the economic crisis will enable Armenia to have an abrupt economic growth," Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsian said today.

The Minister's announcement greatly differed from the Prime Minister's statement voiced at yesterday's international conference entitled "Impact of Global Crisis on Armenia: Short-term and Long-term Prospects."

Asked what his optimism is conditioned by, Mr. Yeritsian said: My optimist is based on my imaginations about our economy, global events and developments and on resources we have mobilized to overcome the crisis. Secondly, if you come across a government official who sounds pessimistic, it means he has fully exhausted himself."

Yeristian's "last optimistic prediction" finally surprised HAK member, economist Vahagn Khachatrian.

"Yesterday we heard some pessimistic predictions about the crisis which is said to be deepening day by day. In fact, the economy is in a more miserable state than people in charge of the sphere can imagine. The real state of our economy is concealed by Armenian representatives, hence people cannot make adequate conclusions about Armenia's economy," said Vahagn Khachatrian.

"I am convinced that things will worsen in September-October, the social state will aggravate and more people will become unemployed. All steps taken by Armenian authorities to boost constriction and metallurgy will give no tangible results. Most probably, the Minister makes his last optimistic forecast to console people," he added.
