After the first two matches of the Valencia chess super tournament, world legendary champion Garry Kasparov defeated Anatoly Karpov with black and took the lead.

Playing white, Karpov attempted to counterattack at the first round but his time was up.

Kasparov smashed Karpov at the second round.

The grand masters are scheduled to hold two rapid matches on September 23.

Note that Kasparov and Karpov are due to meet for the second time in Paris, December 11-13, 2009. The program is yet to be fully announced, but the show is expected to include simuls and other side events. The format will be blitz and rapid games, just as in Valencia.

The organizers are going to continue the rematch in 2010 as well. Similar tournaments are due in New York and Moscow.

Remind that the two grand masters, who fought an epic psychological war when they battled for the world chess crown 25 years ago, started their rematch in the Spanish city of Valencia on September 22.

Both promised to do their best to match the intensity and drama of the grueling 1984 encounter that was controversially called to a halt without a clear winner after five months of play.
