The "South Caucasus Railways" company is ready for the opening of the Turkish-Armenian border, Director General of the company Shevket Shaydulin told journalists today, adding that the issue must only have a political solution.
Construction on the "Akhuryan 2" of the railway started in early 2009 and had to end by December 15, but the work is not done yet. Mr. Shaydulin emphasized that the exploitation of the road will provide the opportunity to open additional workplaces and have a passage.
Summing up the year, Shaydulin brought up many figures which he used to try to explain how favorable and unfavorable the year has been. In that sense, for instance, they weren't able to get profits from cargo transfers in 2009. The fact of the matter is that the company has taken on the task of raising prices for electricity and hasn't raised the prices for their services.
According to him, the "South Caucasus Railways" company has taken the responsibility for the effects of the crisis on Armenia's economy and has allowed the development of small and medium businesses.
"As a result, we lost 845 million rubles just because we left the prices the same as they were on December 31, 2008."
As far as the investment programs are concerned, according to him, the company is planning to add the money to make it reach 1 billion 254 million rubles compared to the previous 1 billion 172 million rubles.
"We have set the objective to increase workplaces and the demand for our services throughout Armenia," said Shaydulin, adding that the average salary of their company workers is 116,000 drams.
Shaydulin also said that the "South Caucasus Railways" company has announced a 22% New Year's discount that will be in effect from December 31 to January 10, 2010.
