Actions at Republic Square
Two protests were being held in front of the two institutions at Republic Square and all protesters were demanding restoration of violated rights.
Oppositionist activists had gathered near "Armenia Marriot" hotel once again with photos of the victims of the events of 2008 March 1 and a sign with photos of the 14 political prisoners.
The International Federation of Human Rights was holding the last session of its conference in one of the hotel halls, while ANC supporters were in the yard to remind the guests once again about the presence of political prisoners in Armenia.
In an interview with "A1+", organizer of the three-day actions, representative of the Committee in Defense of Political Prisoners and the Persecuted Vardan Harutyunyan stressed that their action was effective.
"The conference participants came to participate in the opposition's rally and raised the issues of politic prisoners to the authorities."
Vardan Harutyunyan is among the advocates who boycotted the conference and doesn't regret doing so. "This wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the ruckus, pressures of boycotters and energy of those who participated. We reached our goal. The scandal that arose was pressure and it worked."
Protesting in front of the government building were residents of the sale zone and parents of soldiers who were killed at military units in peaceful conditions. They have presented their complaints to the president of the International Federation of Human Rights.
For instance, president of "Defense of Property Rights" NGO Vachagan Hakobyan told "A1+" that their organization has provided the FIDH with a film presenting the issue at hand.
"Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Karo Areyan received our other group yesterday and complained about why they had gone. He said find the person who stole it and there is no money in the budget. Beglaryan said he would do something for a year and now he says he's not competent. We will not reach anything as long as this government is in power," said Hakobyan.
Gohar Sargsyan, mother of one of the murdered soldiers, added that they had presented the story about the murders of their sons to the president of the FIDH.
"This government violated the rights of our sons. The only facts of the murder we have are tombstones, but not the culprits. The government said it would be consistent in punishing the real culprits."
