Poland will never forget April 10
Poland's Ambassador to Armenia Zdislav Rachinski was in Warsaw during the crash of the presidential plane. He returned to Yerevan at dawn.
Yesterday evening Zdislav Rachinski was again in Warsaw with his family. They visited the presidential residence to commemorate the victims of the crashed airplane.
Despite the heavy rain, the vicinity of the Polish Embassy of Armenia is overcrowded today. People have been coming since early morning to commemorate the victims of the tragic crash killing dozens of Polish top officials. Among the attendees one could see representatives of the Polish community, international organizations and diplomatic missions, Armenian officials and ordinary citizens.
President Lech Kaczynski and scores of other senior Polish figures were killed in the plane crash in Russia on Saturday. The 88 -member delegation was flying to Smolensk to attend the Katyn commemoration ceremony. The plane crashed minutes before the landing.
"The Katyn events were a tragedy for Poland as was the Armenian Genocide for you. They cannot be erased from our memories. The delegation headed by President Kaczynski was flying to Smolensk to commemorate the victims of Katyn," said Zdislav Rachinski.
"The tragedy of April 10 has united the Polish people. People seem to have forgotten their political orientation and jointly mourn over the losses. We witnessed a similar scene five years ago during the death of Pop Hovhannes Poghos II," said the ambassador and added, "Poland is a democratic country and we shall be able to overcome the tragedy through joint efforts."
A book of condolences was opened at the Polish Embassy in Yerevan today. The book will be available for notes for three days making it possible for people to write down their feelings, solidarity, mourning, and thoughts in honor of Lech Kaczynski and other victims of the plane crash.
On April 15, commemoration ceremonies for Lech Kaczynski and other victims will be held in St. Grigor Lusavorich.
On April 17 All-Armenian Catholicos Karekin II will serve a liturgy in memory of the victims.
