Yerevan citizen Aghavni Jalalbekyan has to ask constructors for permission before stepping the territory of her former house.

According to a government decision, the territory on 1 Arami Street was declared a zone of prevailing public interest and Avo F.M.H. Ltd was recognized its new owner.

"My house was pulled down in 2005 when I was absent from the republic. Today I have no shelter and they do not intend to compensate me. Who is to help me?" wonders Aghavni Jalalbekyan who lived at the address since 1971.
The house was not privatized as it belonged to the community. The other six inhabitants of the house received compensation of three billion drams.

"Where is it written that a person can be thrown out to the street without adequate compensation? Nowhere will you find such a law," says Mrs. Jalalbekyan.

In 2007, Avetis Karagulian, the new owner of the building, had Aghavni's name struck off the tenants' list. Aghavni learned about it on returning to Armenia in 2009.

The former tenant is going to apply to Public Council Chairman Vazgen Manukyan and Director of the Department for Migration and Refugees Gagik Yeganyan.
Besides, she is going to file an action in court to receive compensation though she knows she cannot afford a new flat with the money.

Avetis Karagulian, owner of "Avo FMH" Ltd, refrained from answering our questions.
