Radio “Gomidas” is 75 years old

An event dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Uruguay's Radio "Gomidas" will be held at Komitas Chamber Music Hall today at 6 p.m. The event is organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora and "Hamazkayin" Armenian Educational and Cultural Society.

Radio "Gomidas" is one of the first Armenian radio stations of the Diaspora and the official speaker of Vramian Club of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. It was founded on August 18, 1935 in Uruguay under the name Komitas.

The radio station is the mouthpiece of the Armenian community of Uruguay and has an irreplaceable role and significance in the strengthening of relations between Armenia and the Diaspora. The radio station's activities are primarily aimed at developing a unified bridge for solutions to issues related to language, culture and other issues.

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan will give her opening remarks at the ceremony, followed by speeches by Head of Radio "Gomidas" Karo Hekimian, President of "Hamazkayin" Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, RA National Assembly MP Lilit Galstyan, Executive Director of Armenian Public Television Armen Amiryan and Director of "National Radio" and "Radio Hay" radio stations Artavazd Tarkhanyan.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a concert with performances by "Tsakhkazard" group of Araratian Patriarchal Prelacy, "Mesrop Mashtots" Speech Culture Center of Yerevan, as well as recitations by RA Distinguished Artist Silva Yuzbashyan and Suzan Ghazaryan.
