“Humidity leaves its mark on sculptures and paintings”
Ara Sarksian and Hakob Kojoyan House-Museum is in urgent need of repair.
Located at 70 Pushkin, the building houses 316 sculptures of Ara Sarksian and 83 paintings of Hakob Kojoyan.
The building was last renovated in the 1970s, and was not included in the list of cultural centers to be repaired by Lincy Foundation in 2002.
The works are deteriorating from moisture. Sarksian's bronze casting is currently on display at the museum. The sculptures made of plaster and clay are kept in the warehouse.
"Humidity leaves its mark on all works," Museum Director Saro Saurukhanyan told A1+.
Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan visited the building on May 18, Day of Museums, and promised to have it renovated in 2011. The Ministry also promised to address the issues of lighting and gas supply as the museum is heated by electricity.
"The two great masters worked under the same roof. After their death the workshop went to the state and became a museum," the director said.
Though the number of visitors has increased, the director says many do not know about the museum because of its poor location. Saro Saurukhanyan suggests placing a pointer on Mashtots Avenue directing passers-by to the museum.
The building is located in one of the yards of Pushkin street where it is remains unnoticeable for days.
