A Los Angeles-based organization is conducting research on Armenian vipers that are 2,000 meters above sea level in Meghri region. They install special devices on 10 snakes to check their temperature and follow up on the progress.

This is what Head of Shikahogh Reserve Rubik Mkrtchyan said as he denied information according to which 60 snakes were brought to the reserve and that there is an increase. "That is not possible and is not permitted by legislation," he said.

The spread of such rumors is due to the increase of snakes in the region. The snakes have even reached people's homes.

In the morning, resident of house #26 located on the first floor of building #22 in Shinararner District of Kapan opened her bathroom door and stood in shock as she saw a brown snake lying on the tiled floor. A week ago, residents of the 12th building in Dzork district were in panic after noticing a snake entering a window. According to Ruben Mkrtchyan, the increase of snakes in the city has nothing to do with the research.

"It is impossible for the snakes to reach the city from thousands of meters above sea level," said Rubik Mkrtchyan.
